Finnish Literature Week-Tove Jansson & Moomin 80 Exhibition opens in Hanoi

VOV.VN - Finnish Literature Week-Tove Jansson & Moomin 80 Exhibition kicked off at the headquarters of Kim Dong Publishing House in Hanoi on July 11, celebrating the 80th anniversary of the first Moomin story.

Moomins, the beloved characters from a classic series of children’s books and comic strips, were created by renowned Finnish author and illustrator Tove Jansson. To commemorate this milestone, Kim Dong Publishing House and the Embassy of Finland in Vietnam have joined hands to organise a diverse programme of activities.

On opening day, visitors had the special opportunity to read Moomin stories alongside Teija Norvanto, spouse of the Finnish Ambassador to Vietnam. Throughout the event, which runs until July 20, attendees can take part in free interactive workshops and explore an exhibition of original illustrations and books that delve into the enchanting world of the Moomins.

This is the first time Vietnamese audiences have the chance to engage with Tove Jansson’s life and the Moomin universe in such a dynamic and immersive way. Through hands-on activities, creative arts, and educational exhibits designed for all ages, the exhibition offers a fresh, engaging perspective on Finland’s timeless literary heritage.

The Moomins, central figures in a collection of novels, short stories, picture books, and comic strips, have left a lasting impact on generations of readers. Between 1945 and 1993, Tove Jansson published nine Moomin books including The Moomins and the Great Flood, Comet in Moominland, and Finn Family Moomintroll, alongside five picture books and a long-running comic strip.

Over the decades, the Moomins have inspired numerous television shows, films, and even theme parks such as Moomin World in Naantali, Finland, and Akebono Children’s Forest Park in Hanno, Saitama, Japan.
