Fest honours young filmmakers

Movie-lovers in Hanoi had the opportunity to watch the best short films by young Vietnamese filmmakers at the annual short film festival We Are Filmmakers (WAFM) that ran until November 4.

The festival screened the best short films from projects and classes of students from the Centre for Assistance and Development of Movie Talents.

The films were screened at the VietnamCinema Association located at 51 Trần Hưng Đạo Street in Hanoi. They feature different themes including love and friendship and family are in their original languages with English subtitles.

The Centre’s Deputy Director Bui Thac Chuyen said that the event aims to introduce the best short films and encourage and honour the young talents.

“This is a non –profit activity to raise funds for movies, serve the next film projects and create a bridge between young filmmakers and film lovers,” he said.

Besides films made by young Vietnamese filmmakers, the festival will also feature some films by well-known Vietnamese independent filmmakers including Phan Dang Di and Nguyen Hoang Diep.

This is the second edition of the WAFM Film fest, with the first held in the capital late last year.

The screenings are free but a donation of VND20.000 (US$0.8) per person per session is advised to audiences coming to watch the film, as a way to help to maintain the activities of the centre.

The Centre for Assistance and Development of Movie Talents was established to implement programmes to develop movie talents and Vietnamese cinema.
