Exhibition recreates President Ho Chi Minh’s drafting of Declaration of Independence

VOV.VN - An exhibition recreating President Ho Chi Minh’s drafting of the Declaration of Independence 80 years ago opened at a special house in Hanoi on August 18.

The house at 48 Hang Ngang street is considered a red address of the Vietnamese revolution as it is the place where revolutionary leader Ho Chi Minh drafted the Declaration of Independence 80 years ago.

On August 26, 1945, Ho Chi Minh presided over a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam at this house. Among the decisions made, the Committee agreed to prepare the Declaration of Independence and organise a large public gathering in Hanoi for the Provisional Government to present itself to the people, marking the official proclamation of Vietnam’s independence and the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

Ho Chi Minh personally drafted the document at this house and finalised it after incorporating feedback. On September 2, 1945, he read the Declaration before hundreds of thousands of citizens at Ba Dinh Square, Hanoi, officially founding the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

The opening ceremony was attended by senior Party and State leaders, Hanoi officials, and representatives of the patriotic family of Trinh Van Bo and Hoang ThiMinh Ho, who offered their house at 48 Hang Ngangfor Ho Chi Minh to hold meetings and draft the Declaration of Independence. The couple also supported the Provisional Revolutionary Government of Vietnam with 5,147 taels of gold, an amount nearly twice the government’s treasury at the time.

The exhibition is designed with three main themes - the house and the Trinh Van Bo family, the historical context and necessity of the Declaration of Independence, and its significance and the journey of defending national independence. It uses mapping technology, virtual reality, and holograms, alongside archival materials, to vividly recreate Hanoi in 1945 and the historic moment of September 2.

The event aims not only to honour history but also to inspire younger generations to continue building an independent, self-reliant, and prosperous Vietnam, said Bach Lien Huong, director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports.

Following the ceremony, a large number of residents and tourists visited and experienced the exhibition.
