Exhibition honours icons of Vietnamese sculpture

An ongoing exhibition of sculptural and architectural works across the city kicked off with an awards ceremony at the Hanoi Museum last week.

The event was co-organised by the Department of Arts, Photography and Exhibition under Ministry of Cultures, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Fine Arts Association and the Vietnam Architecture Association.

In time of integration and urbanisation, sculpture and architecture are essential to beautifying the landscape and enriching citizens’ daily lives, the organisers said.

The ongoing exhibition features 68 best works out of 578 entries sent to the arts council, 15 of which were awarded by the ministry.

First prize went to Tran Van Thuoc from the northern province of Ninh Binh with The Source of Life , while second prize was awarded to The Wings of Vu Quang Sang and third prize went to Architectural Symbol at Northern Traffic Island of Đak Bla Bridge, Kon Tum by Nguyen Lan Anh, Energy by Ly Đuc Hai, and Relax by Luu Thanh Danh.

The organisers said it hopes the event will help establish the arts market, bringing arts to daily life and contributing to the growth of cultural industry in Vietnam.

The exhibition lasts until November 19.
