European Day of Languages to be held at Goethe-Institut

The event will offer a unique opportunity for all those interested in language, culture and international exchange to experience a multi-lingual environment, enjoy a colorful day full of interesting activities and win attractive prizes.

The European Day of Languages, initiated by the Council of Europe, is now organized by the European Union National Institutes of Culture every year.

It is aimed to alert the public to the importance of language learning and diversifying the range of languages learned in order to increase plurilingualism and intercultural understanding.

The event also encourages lifelong language learning in and out of school, whether for study purposes, professional needs, purposes of mobility or pleasure and exchanges.

Jointly held by the embassies of Finland, France, Italy and Poland, the Aula Cervantes, Wallonie-Bruxelles, the British Council and the Goethe-Institut, the European Day of Languages 2018 will feature a wide range of activities including language classes, games, talks, conferences and language contests.

Through the games and quizzes, students can get a taster of the various languages of Europe and learn more about language diversity.

For teachers of languages, the event offers an opportunity to learn about other cultures, traditions and languages which are not normally presented in the classroom, promote the students' creative talents by putting on sketches illustrating the languages they can speak, set up language cafes, and highlight all the languages spoken in the school.

Whether as an individual or in a group, within an organization (school or association) or just among friends, people of all ages can get involved in the event as it is open to the public and a registration is not necessary.
