Embassies cleverly offer taste of SE Asian culture with food

VOV.VN - The diplomatic missions of Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippine and Indonesia smartly served up Southeast Asian culture and food at a festival on March 14-26 at a park in Mexico City.

Food is a wonderful way to introduce culture as it appeals to all the senses, including taste and smell, and is a participatory as well as personal experience, said the Vietnam Ambassador to Mexico at the event.

Chefs from Vietnam highlighted pho (noodle soup), nem (spring roll) and bun cha (rice noodles with grilled pork), he said, along with other hits from the traditional food scene at the Vietnamese Embassy pavilion.

They also mixed in not only the country’s food, but its music and tourism industry as well, with lots of photos, handicrafts, conical hats on display and passed out tons of travel information.

Serving food that combined the best of cuisine and celebrated the culture was a priority for all the participating Southeast Asian countries, said the Ambassador. Food really helped set the stage for success at the festival.
