Eifman Ballet to bring masterpiece Anna Katerina to Vietnam

VOV.VN - Eifman Ballet, a renowned contemporary ballet company from St. Petersburg, Russia, will make its Vietnam debut as part of the Eifman Ballet World Tour, offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience the contemporary ballet masterpiece Anna Karenina in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

In Ho Chi Minh City, performances will take place at the Municipal Opera House on November 27, 28, and 29, featuring a special edition with selected excerpts from the ballet adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s literary classic.

Then the Vietnam - Russia Friendship Cultural Palace in Hanoi will stage the full production on December 4 and 5, portraying the complete psychological tragedy of Anna Karenina through powerful, nuanced, and cinematic stage movement.

More than just a series of high-caliber performances, this is a chance for Vietnamese audiences to experience the essence of world-class art. Organisers emphasise that this “one-of-a-kind” event marks a significant shift in Vietnam’s cultural event planning mindset, showing that the country is ready to become an international arts destination.

According to Ta Quang Dong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Eifman Ballet’s choice of Vietnam is a source of pride, reflecting international recognition of the country’s potential and position in the performing arts sector.

Hoang Hai Huong, a representative from Vietnam National Music Song and Dance Theatre, shared that this will be a powerful source of inspiration, helping enhance the professional expertise and nurture the creative aspirations of future generations of Vietnamese artists.

Eifman Ballet is founded in 1977 by choreographer Boris Eifman, who is acclaimed as “one of the greatest choreographers in the world. The troupe, featuring Russia’s top artists such as Maria Abashova, Lyubov Andreyeva, Dmitry Fisher, and Sergey Volobuev, is also regarded as a shining symbol of contemporary world dance. Over the past more than four decades, it has won numerous prestigious awards, most notably the Prix Benois de la Danse, often referred to as the 'Oscars of the ballet world'.
