Dak Lak halts Buon Ma Thuot coffee festival in 2021

VOV.VN - The eighth Buon Ma Thuot coffee festival scheduled to take place in March 2021 has been postponed due to the complex developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Dak Lak provincial administration announced on August 13.

Authorities in the Central Highland province of Dak Lak were granted approval by Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung to suspend the event for the sake of local people’s safety as part of COVID-19 prevention and control efforts.

The festival which regularly welcomes people from across the country is held in March every two years to mark the liberation of Dak Lak province. In its iteration in March 2019, the festival attracted 50,000 visitors, including 6,000 foreigners.

The occasion tends to feature exciting activities such as a street festival, an elephant festival, a culinary competition, a boat race, a contest for coffee growers, and a coffee exhibition.

The event is held with the aim of promoting the Buon Ma Thuot coffee brand, as well as Dak Lak as Vietnam’s coffee growing capital globally.
