Cycling talent to train in Switzerland

Promising young cyclist Huynh Thanh Tung will start training at the World Cycling Centre (WCC) in Switzerland from next week.

Tung will spend three months at the headquarters of the International Cycling Union until October 30.

The WCC, based in the central Swiss canton of Aigle, is a high-level coaching and training centre. It is noted for its modern facilities set in an ideal environment for cycling.

Designed for riders, coaches and cycling managers, the WCC contacted Vietnamese officials and offered to train a promising cyclist.

The Vietnam Cycling Federation selected Tung as its first candidate.

The 17-year-old can sprint up to 45kmh, but lacks international competition experience.

The WCC will cover all expenses for meal, accommodation and training fee.

Nguyen Ngoc Vu, who is in charge of the cycling department of the National Sports Administration, said Tung could not compete at the coming SEA Games because he is too young.

However, he is expected to be one of the key competitors at the Asian Games in Vietnam in 2019.
