Culture helps reinforce national image

(VOV) - Significant achievements of the culture, sports and tourism sector have contributed to ensuring national stability and promoting the Vietnamese images to international friends.

The remarks were made by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan while addressing a video conference on January 10 to review the implementation of culture, sports and tourism projects in 2012 and discuss orientations for the coming year.

The Hung Kings worshiping ritual

Nhan stressed that two more Vietnamese cultural heritage examples – the Hung Kings worshiping ritual in Phu Tho province and Vinh Nghiem Pagoda’s woodblocks in Bac Giang province - were recognised by the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) in 2012 as world heritage.

He said the country has 17 recognised world tangible and intangible heritage examples to date, which have boosted tourism development.

Regarding goals for 2013, the Deputy PM noted that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism should focus on family issues, which play a key role in boosting social progress.

Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Hoang Tuan Anh pledged to promote civilised lifestyles and improve spiritual life of people, while dealing strictly with cultural violations.
