(VOV) -Vietnam’s U23 national football team Coach Hoang Van Phuc has submitted his resignation to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) despite his players’ recent 3-1 win over Hong Kong in their last Asian Cup qualifiers.
Coach Phuc initially decided to call it quits following the lackluster performance of the national team at the 27th SEA Games in Myanmar late last year.
However, VFF acting chairman Le Hung Dung encouraged him to continue in the position and at least see the team through an upcoming match in Hong Kong.
VFF General Secretary Ngo Le Bang said currently VFF is busy preparing for its 7th congress slated for March 25, and it needs more time to consider Phuc’s resignation.
VFF executives have principally agreed to replace Phuc, but it is no easy task to find who will coach the national team at the moment.
After the congress, VFF will begin the search for a new coach and announce the selection in June.
