Cinema workshop to promote Vietnam - US cultural ties

VOV.VN - The Vietnam Film Institute will host a workshop in Hanoi on August 8 to highlight the role of cinematic heritage in cultural cooperation between Vietnam and the United States.

The workshop is expected to welcome guest speakers including leaders from the Department of Cinema, the Department of Cultural Heritage; directors, People's Artists, film producers, professors, PhDs, and experts in the film industry.

It will provide an opportunity to reflect on the role of cinema as a vital part of cultural heritage, deeply connected to history, memory, and international relations.

It also aims to promote, preserve, and disseminate the historical and cultural values of archived cinematic materials through film clips, images, and other documentation. These efforts seek to inspire patriotism, revolutionary heroism, and the determined spirit of the Vietnamese people in national construction and defence.

From post-war recovery and reconciliation to the normalisation of diplomatic ties and the establishment of a strategic comprehensive partnership, cinema has acted as a vital cultural bridge to promote and honour the values of peace between the two countries.

The workshop will feature two thematic sessions with the first focusing on cinematic heritage and preservation, the artistic and historical value of cinematic works, as well as the importance of archiving and disseminating films.

Furthermore, it will highlight the Vietnam Film Institute’s role in enhancing international links in film preservation and its efforts to safeguard and promote film heritage for future generations.

Meanwhile, the second session will explore how cinema has fostered cultural exchanges between Vietnam and the US.

Discussions will also focus on cinematic and artistic works, particularly those portraying the Vietnamese people's struggle for the cause of national independence. In addition, it will examine the role of cinema and other cultural activities when it comes to strengthening the friendly relationship and cooperation between both countries.
