Cherry blossom festival in Quang Ninh

(VOV) - A cherry blossom festival called "A Japanese Cultural Feature in Ha Long" opened in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh province on April 12.

This is part of activities to mark the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Year and the 40th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties and.

On display are five “Garyuu” cherry trees from Takayama City in Gifu Prefecture and 100 Hikan cherry branches from Nago City, Okinawa Prefecture.

The highlights of the festival include an art exchange between artists from Quang Ninh and Japan, an exhibition of Quang Ninh’s art works and introduction of tourism products and destinations, and traditional dishes and drinks of Quang Ninh and Japan at 20 stands.

Visitors will have the chance to taste Japanese food and tea and enjoy a demonstration of tuna cooking by Japanese chefs.

After the festival, Ha Long will plant the cherry trees at Lan Be Park. In late 2012, Quang Ninh already planted cherry trees at Lan Be Park and Yen Tu relic site.

Dang Huy Hau, Vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said visitors to Quang Ninh can also enjoy the beauty of Ha Long Bay, one of the world nature wonders and of the sunrise country.

The cherry blossom festival has been successfully organised in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. It is scheduled to take place in Ha Long City in April every year.
