Chèo Bac Ninh recognised as National Intangible Cultural Heritage
VOV.VN - The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has officially added Chèo Bac Ninh, a form of Vietnamese folk theatre in former Bac Ninh province, to the national intangible cultural heritage list.

Chèo is a Vietnamese folk theatrical art form which originated in the 10th century and is deeply embedded in the cultural and spiritual life of the Vietnamese people. It is particularly popular in the Red River Delta region of northern Vietnam.
In Bac Ninh, Chèo is divided into different forms such as Chèo in water procession festivals, Chèo in ancestor worship ceremonies, and Chèo in pagodas and temples. In particular, in the former Lim commune, there is also Chèo singing ritual which takes place as part of ancestor worship.
Over the years, Bac Ninh has played a significant role in shaping modern Chèo, thanks to contributions from renowned artists such as Le Hong Hat, Thuong Luyen, Diem Loan, Thuy Tinh, and Minh Chinh. The locality is also considered a cradle of performance talent, home to celebrated stage artists like Duc Bang, Duc Thuy, Xuan Hinh, Quoc Truong, and Tu Long.
The recognition of Chèo Bac Ninh as a national intangible cultural heritage not only highlights its artistic and historical value but also reinforces efforts to preserve and promote this traditional art form, particularly among the younger generation.
