Can Tho hosts student volleyball tourney

(VOV) - The final round of the 2012 Toyota National Student Volleyball Tournament will be held in Can Tho University’s sports hall from October 20-26.

Twenty four male and female teams, that successfully advanced through qualifying rounds organised in Hanoi, Haiphong, Thai Binh, Hue, Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho, will compete for this year’s titles.

They will be divided into eight groups to play in a round-robin format and to select groupwinners and runners-up for the quarter-finals.

Prizes for the first, second, and third placed teams in both the men’s and women’s events are worth VND30 million, VND20 million, and VND10 million respectively.

Toyota Motor Vietnam will donate VND50 million to the universities of the winning teams and VND30 million to those of the runners-up as a way of helping the development of Vietnamese sports.

A contest entitled “Cheerleading with Toyota Volleyball” will be run in conjunction with the tournament’s final round. It aims to foster a friendly, healthy environment among students.

16 teams will participate in the contest, with each team performing once. The performances include ancient collective exercises that will be assessed in terms of timing, structure, and performance art skill.

The performances will conclude with mass cheering involving the attending fans themselves, celebrating their enthusiasm and the sporting spirit.
