Buddhist Sangha’s 35th anniversary celebrated in Kien Giang

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) held a ceremony to mark its 35th founding anniversary (November 7) in the Lang Cat Pagoda, Rach Gia city, the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang on October 8.

Addressing the event, Most Venerable Thich Thien Tam, Vice Chairman of the VBS Executive Council underlined the significant achievements made by the sangha over the past 35 years and attributed them to the solidarity and support of all Buddhist organisations, monks, nuns and followers.


He highlighted the Buddhism’s contributions to the prosperity and development of the nation, especially maintaining and promoting the traditional Vietnamese culture.

Pagodas across the nation have continuously participated in education work and charitable activities, he said.

The VBS has established its chapters across all the 63 cities and provinces as well as in foreign countries. The sangha has affirmed its role in the world Buddhist community and actively participated in the international integration, he stressed. 

On the occasion, a series of workshops on the Khmer Nam Tong ( Theravada ) Buddhism and the Sene Dolta Festival were organised.
