Book festival to be held in HCM City

The HCMC Department of Information and Communications announced a book festival to herald the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday will be inaugurated on February 13 (three days ahead of Tet) and closed on February 19 in downtown Ho Chi Minh City.

The event, themed “Nurturing knowledge - Aspiration to a new height”, will take place on Mac Thi Buoi, Nguyen Hue and Ngo Duc Ke streets in close proximity to Nguyen Hue Flower Street in District 1.

Around 26,000 book titles introduced by 12 book companies and publishing houses will be on display at this year’s book festival.

Speaking at a news conference last week, Trinh Huu Anh, deputy director of the Division of Publication and Printing under the department, said the festival is funded by private enterprises, instead of using State budget like previous years.

As one of the annual events in the city in the lead up to Tet holiday, the festival is aimed to nurture reading culture and provide local residents with a place for recreation during the country’s biggest national holiday.

All vehicles will be banned from moving onto Mac Thi Buoi, Nguyen Hue and Ngo Duc Ke streets from February 3 to 13 to facilitate the installation of facilities got the book festival.
