Book Festival launched in Hanoi

(VOV) -The 2013 Book and Reading Culture Festival on the theme “Books Change Lives” opened in Hanoi on April 20  to mark World Book and Copyright Day (April 23).

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Vuong Duy Bien, said the event aims to raise public awareness about the importance of reading for young people and students to forming their characters through self-learning and studying.

The organizing board received nearly 3,000 books and library equipment worth hundreds of millions VND from 40 publishing houses across the country to support the festival.

The Kim Dong publishing house also launched a programme to donate a million books to disadvantaged children and 2,000 libraries nationwide in the 2013 - 2015 period.

The event gave visitors a chance to meet and talk with young writer Bich Lan, who translated two biographies by Nick Vujicic, “Life without Limits” and “Unstoppable” as well as the novel “Q & A” by Vikas Swarup, which was eventually made into the Oscar winning film, “Slumdog Millionaire”.
