Bonhams auctions Vietnamese art works

VOV.VN - Bonhams Cornette de Saint Cyr auction house presented for the first time a sale entitled La Modernite Vietnamienne for Vietnamese art in Paris, France, on December 14.

Among the highlights of the auction is Vue du Delta du Fleuve Rouge by Vietnamese painter Hoang Tich Chu (1912 – 2003), with an estimated value of between EUR15,000 and EUR20,000.

The lacquer painting comes from the collection of art works owned by a European diplomat who worked in Vietnam in the 1980s and bought it directly from artist Hoang Tich Chu in November 1986.

Tich Chu, one of the nation’s greatest lacquer artists, used a rich palette of colours, especially blue and green, to replace the traditional red, highlighted by gold and eggshells.

Other paintings on sale include Retour au Village by Nguyen Phan Chanh (1892 – 1984). The piece created in 1955 accurately depicts the return of soldiers to their village following the liberation of North Vietnam in 1954.

The piece was a gift to Hungarian photographer Miklos Rev (1906 – 1998) who met Nguyen Phan Chanh on a trip to Vietnam in 1959. The painting’s value is between EUR30,000 and EUR50,000.

On sale are also paintings costing EUR3,000 to EUR9,000 by Vietnamese artists such as Huynh Phuong Dong, Diep Minh Chau, and Do Xuan Doan.
