Association’s painting contest aimed at artists under 40

Painters under 40 years old are encouraged to participate in a painting contest launched by the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association in co-operation with The V Art and Galerie Nguyen this week.

The event, Vietart Today 2016, aims to help young artists from anywhere in the country develop their professional careers.

“We hope our contest will be a bridge to connect young artists, galleries and collectors and create opportunities for winners to introduce their art at home and abroad,” said veteran artist Uyen Huy, a member of the event’s advisory board.

The organisers invited Dr Ildegarda E. Scheidegger, former deputy director in Tribal and Asian Art of the Sotheby’s Zurich, Switzerland office, to join the jury. She works as an independent art publisher, curator and artist manager.

The jury also includes curators Thanh Kieu Moeller of Singapore and Julie Lam of Canada, collector Oliver Do Ngoc of Luxembourg and painter Tran Thanh Canh, head of the association’s Club of Young Artists.
Submissions should include no more than 20 paintings and be at least 60cmx60cm in size in oil, lacquer, acrylic or mixed media. The painter’s biography should also be included.
Participants should send their works before December 6 to the organising board at the email infor@thevart.com .
Twenty collections of paintings will be chosen for the final round on December 10. The works will be displayed at The V Art and Galerie Nguyen.
A jury and a group of collectors invited by the organisers will vote and choose the winners.

The organisers will present a first prize worth VND2.5 billion (US$110,000), including VND100 million (US$4,500) in cash, a tour to Singapore and a five-year exclusive contract with The V Art and Galerie Nguyen.

Second and third prizes are worth a total of VND2.5 billion. Consolation prizes will also be given.

The awards presentation ceremony is expected to take place in February.
