A taste of Haiti: Dance, music and food

(VOV) - The first ever Cultural Week of Haiti in Hanoi has opened featuring dancing, music along with the Latin American country’s infamous traditional cuisine of griot (fried pork), acra (malanga and salted fish), beef patties and fried plantains.

Speaking at the opening ceremonies, Haitian Ambassador to Vietnam Jean Lesly Benoit said the culture of Haiti stands out for its diversity and is a reflection of its inner beauty.

Themed – Haiti, Live the Experience – the event aims to celebrate the courage and pride of the Haitian people, the aesthetics of Haitian culture and commemorate the 211th anniversary of the country's independence.

It also aims to advertise the inherent beauty of Haiti’s landscapes, people and culture to international friends and contribute to strengthening friendship and trade cooperation between Vietnam and Haiti.

Organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Haiti in collaboration with the Viettel Telecom Group, the ongoing cultural week is designed to spread the rich cultural heritage, art and cuisine of Haiti through a weeklong festival of enjoyable activities.

Entry is free at the event, which runs January 12-15 at the Embassy of the Republic of Haiti, 44/4 Van Bao Street, Hanoi.
