2026 Buddhist Festival of Compassion draws over 10,000 visitors
VOV.VN - The 2026 Quan The Am Festival (Buddhist Festival of Compassion) concluded at Marble Mountains, Da Nang city, on April 7, attracting more than 10,000 monks, Buddhists, locals, and tourists over four days.
Recognised as a key cultural and spiritual event in Da Nang, the festival combined solemn Buddhist rituals with diverse cultural, artistic, and sporting activities.
According to the organisers, the event was managed with comprehensive planning, ensuring security, traffic safety, and environmental hygiene, while participants’ awareness contributed to a civilised, friendly, and professional festival atmosphere.
Beyond attendance numbers, the festival promotes cultural values, spiritual well-being, and a positive lifestyle. It also highlights Da Nang as a safe and culturally rich destination.
Nguyen Hoa, chairman of Ngu Hanh Son Ward and deputy head of the Festival Organising Committee, said the festival is expected to further drive sustainable tourism while preserving and enhancing local cultural heritage.
Held annually on the 19th day of the second lunar month at Quan The Am Pagoda, at the foot of the Marble Mountains, the festival originates from rituals honouring Bodhisattva Quan The Am (Avalokiteshvara), revered in Vietnamese Buddhism as the embodiment of compassion and mercy.
Over time, the festival has evolved into a large-scale event combining solemn ceremonies with cultural festivities, reflecting the spiritual and cultural life of central Vietnam.
Key activities include light processions, dharma talks, Bodhisattva rituals, tea meditation, lantern releases, and traditional folk games, allowing visitors to explore cultural and religious values and fostering community connections.
The Quan The Am Festival has been listed among Vietnam’s top 15 national festivals since 2000 by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (now Vietnam National Authority of Tourism) and was recognised as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2021 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, underscoring its lasting appeal to both domestic and international visitors.
Through its balance of cultural preservation and spiritual tourism development, Marble Mountains has become a prime destination for those seeking spiritual roots, exploring local heritage, and experiencing one of central Vietnam’s most vibrant festivals.
