Asia-Pacific broadcasters meet in Macao

The 36th Annual Gathering and the 9th General Assembly of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) opened in Macao (China) on July 26, bringing together more than 70 radio and TV broadcasters from 22 countries in the region.

In his report, an AIBD representative reported that since 2009 the AIBD has collaborated with international organisations and regional broadcasters to organise 77 training courses and 8 international workshops, drawing the participation of 1,700 journalists and their managers.

Vietnam has been acknowledged regionally as one of the member countries that have run many such courses and workshops thanks to the active engagement of Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) and Vietnam Television (VTV).

Delegates focused their discussions on opportunities and challenges for the media, the audience’s needs in the context of multimedia development, the audience’s role in programming, as well as accuracy and credibility of the media.

They also looked at preparations for the Asia Media Summit to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam, in May 2011, and a media conference for children around the globe to be held in Indonesia in 2013.

At the opening ceremony, the AIBD presented its awards for the year 2010, with the AIBD Radio Award going to Indonesia and China, and the AIBD TV Award to Russia and the Republic of Korea. The judge also conferred other awards on a number of regional radio and TV broadcasters.
