Vietnam to play three AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2022 qualifiers
VOV.VN - Coach Mai Duc Chung’s players will soon fly to the United Arab Emirates for a training session before they compete at the qualifying round of the 2022 Asian Cup run by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
According to a recent draw, Vietnam are set to play Afghanistan, the Maldives, and hosts Tajikistan in Group B.
However, it remains unknown if Afghanistan women will be able to take part in the competition after Taliban militants took control of the country several days ago.
Most recently, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) announced that two Afghan athletes are unable to participate in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games in Japan due to the current political situation in their country.
The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) raised the question to the AFC that said they have yet to receive any notice from the Afghanistan Football Federation.
The qualifying round of the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup is due to get underway between September 7 and October 12 in Tajikistan.
A total of 28 teams are scheduled to compete in eight groups to select the best 12 teams to the final round.
The final round is set to take place between January 20, 2022, and February 6, 2022, in India. The top five teams will go on to represent Asia at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
