There are 827candidates for seats at the 13th National Assembly, said Minister of Home Affairs Tran Van Tuan at a press briefing in Hanoi on April 27.

Localities have already set up electoral boards to oversee the 13th National Assembly and People’s Council elections at all levels in the 2011-2016 term, Minister Tuan said.

A total of 3,832 deputies will be selected for seats at provincial People’s Councils in 63 cities and provinces, 21,131 at district level and 281,491 at communal level.

The third consultative conference passed the official list of 5,965 candidates for the People’s Council at all levels.

Female candidates make up 34.4 percent, or 2,052 people, young candidates, 20.3 percent or 1,211 people, non-Party candidates, 14.62 percent or 872 people, ethnic minority candidates 19.21 percent or 1,146 people, and the number of self-nominated candidates is 25 or 0.41 percent.

As many as 91,438 polling stations are expected to be set up across the country.
