Vietnamese in Thailand overcome consequences of floods

VOV.VN - The historic flood over the last 40 years that recently hit northeastern Thailand caused serious damage to many overseas Vietnamese living there.

Hardest hit is Kakhon Nakhon province where a large number of OVs are residing. According to preliminary statistics, around 400 Vietnamese families were affected by the floods with estimated losses of around US$4 million.

The OVs Association in Thailand has launched a campaign to help flood victims stabilize their lives soon. The OVs Association in Nong Bua Lamphu Province and the Women’s Union in Khon Kaen Province also visited Sakhon Nakhon and donated VND120 million to OVs there.

A working delegation from the Vietnamese Consulate General in Khon Kaen led by Consul General Nguyen Ngoc Son also visited the flood victims in Sakhon Nakhon and provided them with essential food and things.

Meanwhile, OVs across Thailand have effectively responded to the campaign in support of their countrymen in the northeastern region, particularly Sakhon Nakhon province. Around VND350 million has been raised for the flood victims so far.

The historic flood killed 11 people, submerged hundreds of villages and affected the living conditions of ten thousand locals.
