The central province of Thua Thien-Hue has so far this year carried out 51 projects valued at US$2.68 million, using non-refundable aid from non-governmental organisations. The figure represents an annual increase of 34 percent.

The projects have helped to provide medical services, education, community development, loans, environment protection, and rural development in remote and isolated areas.

Larger projects included the construction of the heart and cardiology department at the provincial clinic funded by the East Meets West, and preservation of the wall painting in An Dinh Palace of the Nguyen dynasty funded by the Leibniz cultural exchange association of Germany. Projects to build a kindergarten and irrigation works are also being conducted in the province.

Since 2001, Thua Thien-Hue has carried out 250 projects with a combined capital of US$20 million invested by non-governmental organisations. According to deputy chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Ngoc Thien, 25 percent of the projects have been in infrastructure construction, 30 percent in production development, and 20 percent in medical services and education.
