State President Nguyen Minh Triet inspected the implementation of a national highway upgrade project in the central city of Da Nang on March 23.

A 8.5km long stretch of National Highway 1A running through the city is being upgraded and expanded by Civil Engineering Construction Joint Stock Company 545 in the form of build-operate-transfer (BOT) at a total cost of VND560 billion.

After 17 months, the company has completed 95 percent of the work and it is expected to finish the project before October 31. Once completed, the road will have a width of 33m, meeting second-tier city standards, and two bridges: Do and Qua Giang.

President Triet praised the company for its efforts to surmount difficulties and continue construction, generating jobs for local workers. He asked the investor to pay attention to labour safety, the quality and the pace of the project as well as workers’ living conditions.

He proposed that Da Nang diversify forms of investment to create more infrastructure projects for its development, saying BOT is the best solution.

In the morning, Mr Triet met with veteran revolutionaries and retired officials in the city.
