Vietnam-India strategic partnership proves efficacious
(VOV) -National Assembly chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung welcomed Indian President Pranab Mukherjee in Hanoi on September 15 and believed the guest’ visit will open up new windows of opportunity to elevate bilateral strategic partnership to greater heights.
Hung said increasing Vietnam-India cooperation will help contribute to peace, security, prosperity in the region and the world at large.
The Vietnamese people will always remember and forever be grateful for the enormous support from the Indian government and people during the country’s past struggle for national independence and in its present cause of national construction and defence, Hung noted.
President Mukherjee in turn said the time-honoured relationship, first established by late Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh and late Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru,has continually been nurtured and fostered by generations of leaders and citizens of both countries.
The strategic partnership between the two countries has gradually blossomed on a number of fronts over the years and the transition has seen remarkable results, he said, adding India’s political parties always attach importance to tightening relations with Vietnam.
He revealed both sides are projected to increase two-way trade turnover nearly twofold, from the current US$8 billion to a staggering US$15 billion by 2020. Host and guest talked about activities of the legislative bodies in each country and agreed to share experience in legislation and boost inter-parliament cooperation regionally and globally.
On the occasion, NA Chairman Hung extended an invitation to leaders of the Indian Parliament to attend the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly set to take place in Hanoi from March 28 to April 1, 2015.
Indian President Pranab Mukherjee arrived in Hanoi on September 14 for a four-day visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang.
