Germany assists Vietnam develop wind power
A handbook on wind power investment guidelines was launched in Ho Chi Minh City on September 29 as part of the German Government’s support for wind power development in Vietnam.

The handbook comprises two volumes focusing on project development and project financing.
It aims to provide more transparency and clarity on the different development phases of a wind project in Vietnam from the administrative perspective under the current regulatory framework, and bring clarity on different financing possibilities.
The handbook is expected to be useful for all stakeholders in the development of wind power in Vietnam.
The workshop to launch the handbook was held by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), the General Directorate of General of Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the USAID Private Financing Advisory Networking Asia.
It was within the framework of Germany’s technical development cooperation project “Support to the Up-scaling of Wind Power” in Vietnam, which has a total budget of 6.9 million EUR from 2014 to 2018.
Experts said Vietnam boasts huge wind power potential that has yet to be fulfilled with a coast thousands of kilometres long.
They pointed some difficulties facing investors interested in wind power here, including low electricity prices, shortage of capital and reliable data, and complicated legal regulations.
