Markus Nyikos, the principal cellist of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform at the HCM City Conservatory of Music on March 23.
Together with the Conservatory's symphony orchestra, he will play Haydn's Concerto Cello no.1 in C major. He will also perform works by Felix Mendelssohn and Ernest Bloch with US-trained Ho Dac Thuy Hoang who is a teacher of piano at the HCM City Conservatory of Music.
Born in 1948 in Switzerland, Nyikos has won several chamber music prizes including the Swiss Soloist's Prize in 1976 and the prestigious Gaspar Cassado Competition in Florence, Italy, in 1977.
Since 1979, he has been teaching at the University of the Arts in Berlin. As a soloist, Nyikos has performed around the world with many internationally renowned orchestras including the London Soloists Chamber Orchestra and Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra.
