The 38th session of the 12th National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee opened in Hanoi on February 14 under the chairmanship of Party General Secretary and NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong.

Delegates to the event, which will last until February 22, will discuss the approval and adjustment of a number of draft laws to be adopted by the NA in its forthcoming meeting. The draft laws include the law on the capital city, the revised laws on the amendment and supplement of some articles in the civil procedure code, the independent audit law and the anti-human trafficking law.

They will discuss reports on the activities of the NA Standing Committee, the State President, the Prime Minister, the Head of the People’s Supreme Procuracy and the Chief Judge of the People’s Supreme Court.

The NA deputies will contribute ideas to the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group’s allotment of VND3,500 billion from the State budget in 2011. They will also debate the Government’s additional report on the assessment of the implementation of the socio-economic development plan and State budget in 2010, as well as the socio-economic development plan State budget in the first months of 2011.

During the 38th session, participants will also introduce qualified candidates to the 13th NA and discuss a number of other important issues.
