Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) held a meeting in Hanoi on March 4 to review disseminating information for Vietnamese people living abroad.

During the past years, VOV has attached great importance to disseminating information for Vietnamese expatriates. The Radio broadcasts many programmes for overseas Vietnamese on VOV1 and VOV5, as well as in its print newspaper and online newspaper - VOVNews.

Through these programmes, Vietnamese nationals living in foreign countries can get reliable, updated information about their homeland such as religion and human rights reports.

VOV has produced many articles unmasking plots to smear and slander Vietnam. Comments on radio programmes and features on VOVNews have helped the overseas Vietnamese community understand more about national development in their homeland.

In addition, VOV also has special programmes about Vietnamese culture and inspiring the spirit of national patriotism. Through the Radio, many Vietnamese people in the US, UK and Singapore sent relief aid to help poor students and flood victims in central Vietnam in 2010.

Speaking at the meeting, Dang The Hung, Vice Chairman of the State Commission on Overseas Vietnamese, highly valued VOV’s remarkable contributions to disseminating information for overseas Vietnamese, saying it is one of the most effective and interesting mass media institutions.

He pledged to cooperate with VOV in the future to boost disseminating information on external affairs.

Mr Hung also stressed the need to map out detailed cooperation between the two agencies in 2011.

VOV Deputy General Director, Dao Duy Hua, said that the two agencies have not yet fully tapped their potential for cooperation. He hoped that the cooperation between VOV and the State Commission on Overseas Vietnamese would continue to strengthen in the future.
