20th anniversary of first blood stem cell transplant
(VOV) -A ceremony has been held recently in HCM City to mark the 20th anniversary of Vietnam’s success in blood stem cell transplantation.
Deputy Health Minister Nguyen Thi Xuyen said Vietnam’s healthcare sector has obtained important achievements and successfully applied the world’s advanced technologies in examination and treatment.
She asked the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion and the HCM City Institute to improve personnel quality and enhance international cooperation in stem cell research and application.
Xuyen expressed her belief that stem cell technology will further develop in Vietnam, opening up opportunities for life-threatening patients.
In July 1995, the HCM City Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion conducted the 1st stem cell transplant in Vietnam. Vietnam now has 9 hospitals capable of performing stem cell blood transplants.
