The 19th Charming Vietnam Gala, which is organised by Thanh Nien (Youth) newspaper, will be held at the Hoa Binh Theatre in Ho Chi Minh City from January 3-6.

The annual event is expected to raise VND1.5 billion (approximately US$100,000) for the newspaper’s Nguyen Thai Binh Fund for poor students.

The show, which is entitled “Vietnamese Streets: Past, Present and Future”, will feature as many as 200 overseas Vietnamese and local performances involving models and actresses in live music and fashion shows.

The previous Charming Vietnam Gala was staged in Singapore for two nights in August with the aim of introducing Vietnamese culture to those living outside the country.

Since 1992, the newspaper’s fund has granted a total of 6,501 scholarships worth VND9.8 billion (US$610,000) to poor students.
