Laos’ Security Ministry began building a centre for crime studies in Vientiane on July 30 at an estimated cost of VND39.3 billion (US$2.4 million) in non-refundable aid from the Vietnamese government.

Present at the ground-breaking ceremony were the Lao Security Minister and a delegation from the Vietnamese Public Security Ministry, headed by Minister General Le Hong Anh and Deputy Ministers Sen. Lieut. Gen. Le The Tiem and Nguyen Van Huong.

General Le Hong Anh said the project is expected to play an important role in combating crime in Laos in cooperation with Vietnam, the ASEAN bloc and the rest of world.

Laos Security Minister Thongban Sengaphone affirmed that the project will help boost the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between people and police of the two countries.

Earlier the same day, Minister Le Hong Anh handed over a number of vehicles, medical and professional equipment worth over VND2 billion (US$125,000) to Minister Thongban Sengaphone as gifts from the Vietnamese Public Security Ministry to the Lao Security Ministry.
