Only 17.2 percent of Vietnamese workers, or one sixth of the workforce, can use computers, the General Statistics Office (GSO) said, citing its recent survey at economic, administrative and non-production units across the country.

Information technology and telecommunication units take the lead in computer application, with nearly 82 percent of their workers able to use computers. They are followed by financial and banking businesses, with 79 percent, scientific and technological establishments, 65.5 percent, and social and political organisations, nearly 48 percent.

Accommodation services register the lowest rate of only 3.7 percent.

The GSO’s survey also indicates that there are about 2.02 million computers in the country, more than 3 times higher than five years ago.

The number of LAN-connected computers has increased more than six folds, and that of Internet-connected computers has skyrocketed by 16 times over the last five years.
