This year, in addition to improving the effectiveness of its business, the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) must ensure national energy security, considering electricity saving and waste reduction as part of a national programme.

Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung made the remark at a conference held in Hanoi on January 12 to review EVN's implementation of 2006 objectives and embark on its 2007 plan.

This year, EVN must accelerate the construction tempo of electricity projects in order to put five important electricity projects into operation on schedule, Mr Hung stressed.

As Vietnam fully integrates into the world economy, EVN should be more dynamic and flexible to maintain its control, thus firmly holding market share in the domestic electricity market and looking toward to the world market.

EVN General Director Pham Le Thanh affirmed that in 2006, EVN ensured safe electricity supply for the national economy, with a total electricity output of 58.93 billion kWh.
