Vietnam to host int’l triathlon competition for first time

(VOV) - Thua Thien-Hue province’s Phu Loc district will host the international Laguna Triathlon on April 14.

The event, the first of its kind in Vietnam, is organised by Thua Thien-Hue’s Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism in coordination with the Singaporean group Banyan Tree’s Laguna Co. Ltd.

The triathlon is expected to attract almost 500 domestic and foreign athletes to battle it out over a 1.8km long swim leg, a 62km cycling leg, and a 12km run.

Famous triathletes including US Ironman Champion Chris Lieto and World Ironman Champion Chris McCormack will compete for the title.

Internationally renowned television channels ESPN and Star Sports plan on broadcasting the event.

The Laguna Triathlon hopes to raise funds for clean water infrastructure projects and hygiene education programmes in Thua Thien-Hue.
