HCM, Gimpo cities agree to cement ties

(VOV) - Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City’s People Committee Le Hoang Quan said the city and Gimpo will further boost bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Quan made the statement during his October 29 meeting in HCM city with Mayor of Gimpo City, Republic of Korea, Yoo young Rok.

Currently, the Republic of Korea is a largest investor in HCM City. More than 1,000 Korean businesses are operating in the city with a total investment capitalisation of around US$5 billion.

By the end of this year, two-way trade turnover between HCM City and the RoK is expected to reach US$2.9 billion. Particularly, HCM City’s exports to the RoK are forecast to earn US$1.4 billion, making up 30% of the city’s total export turnover this year, Quan noted.

For his part, Yoo young Rok said his visit to Vietnam this time was aimed at boosting bilateral trade ties and goods exchange. Gimpo City, with developed industry and tourism, has attracted 1,700 Vietnamese guest workers.

Gimpo City hopes to strengthen cooperation with and investment in Ho Chi Minh City in the coming time, he added.
