January traffic deaths down nearly 6% in Vietnam

VOV.VN - Traffic deaths were down by almost 6% in January, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has announced, but there is still significant work ahead to make the roads safer for citizens.

Citing National Traffic Safety Committee statistics, Deputy PM Phuc said there were 1,716 traffic accidents reported throughout the country for the month – down 20.96% compared to the prior year.

They resulted in in 735 deaths and 1,550 serious injuries, a drop of 5.89%, and 24.28%, respectively.

A traffic accident case

Phuc, who is also Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, urged relevant agencies throughout the government to continue to raise public awareness and initiate new regulations regarding traffic safety.
