A programme to give an overall view of French cinema will be launched in Hanoi and HCM City on October 11.

Many French films will be shown during the programme including “Our Happy Days”, “A Girl”, and “Special Mission Unit “.

The event is co-organised by Unifrance - an organisation to promote French cinema worldwide, French embassy in Hanoi, and the French Consulate General in HCM City.

Mr Jean Christophe Baubia, a representative from Unifrance said France wants to introduce some of the best films from French cinema to Vietnam and hopes that the event will help Vietnamese people to learn more about the French movie industry. “We want to introduce a variety of French cinema to Vietnam, such as crime, comedy, and tragedy.

Vietnam is a country with a young population and has great potential for French cinema”, Mr Christophe Baubia said in a response to a VOV reporter asking why they had selected Vietnam to hold the event.

During the programme, many French famous artists will visit Vietnam namely Costa Gavras, Regis Wargnier, Pierre Salvadori and Pham Linh Dan, an actress of Vietnamese origin.

The event will open up new opportunities for Vietnam and French to expand cooperation in the cinema industry.

Mr Christophe Baubia added that French and Vietnamese film makers will discuss the potential for cooperation and are likely to sign an agreement on co-production. In this context, French and Vietnamese films could be produced in both countries.
