National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong on May 17 received the newly-accredited ambassadors from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and New Zealand.

Receiving Saudi Arabian Ambassador Salah Bin Ahmad Hamid Sarhan, NA Chairman Trong welcomed the diplomat’s undertaking his term of office in Vietnam as the first resident ambassador of Saudi Arabia, marking a new step of development in friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.

Regarding joint efforts in the fields of economy, trade and petroleum, Vietnam and Saudi Arabia still hold a lot of potential for further cooperation, he said.

The legislative leader said he hopes that the ambassador will put forth many initiatives to promote relations between Vietnam and Saudi Arabia, and their legislatures as well.

During his reception for Pakistani Ambassador Shahid M.G. Kiani, Mr Trong said Vietnam attaches importance to its friendly and cooperative ties with South Asian nations, including Pakistan.
The lawmaker called on the Pakistani ambassador to work out specific and practical cooperation programmes so as to further advance the relationship in the years to come, both bilaterally and multilaterally.

At his meeting with the New Zealand Ambassador, Heather Mhairi Riddell, Trong expressed his hope that the ambassador would accomplish her tasks well, thus helping to strengthen and develop the friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

Vietnam and New Zealand should work out action plans to effectively implement their joint declaration on comprehensive partnership, he said, adding that the two nations need to boost exchanges and cooperation between the legislative bodies.
