Ho Chi Minh City has earmarked over VND10 billion to buy gifts for poor people and social welfare beneficiaries in the city to celebrate the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.
The city will also give Tet gifts to disadvantaged families in other provinces and cities.

Local businesses have donated almost VND9.4 billion in total to the city’s fund “For the Poor”.

On January 29, trade unions operating in the local industrial and export processing zones handed over 2,000 bus tickets, worth VND1.1 billion in total, and 1,000 gift packages to workers from flood-hit central provinces to help them go home for Tet.
