Vietnamese-American woman awarded

(VOV) -A Vietnamese-American woman Danielle Nguyen has received “The Youth of the Year” award for her significant volunteer activities at the annual Chatsworth Community Coordinating Council banquet.

Danielle Nguyen, an 18-year-old Chatsworth High School (CHS) student and Chatsworth resident, has been a member of the CHS Associated Student Body Leadership Organization since 2010 known as a Sophomore Class vice-president that was re-elected in her junior and senior years. 

As class vice-president, she has effectively helped oversee the planning and implementation of all Class of 2013 activities, including weekly Steering Committee meetings and a plethora of fundraisers, generating thousands of dollars to defray senior class activity costs.

She has also taken part in organizing the senior class talent show, pre-prom fashion show, senior picnic, prom and graduation ceremonies.

"Danielle is a key player in the school’s varsity tennis team and the Treasurer of the CHS Humanitas Student Organization, a club focused on community service. 

She is very active in the organization of seven highly successful American Red Cross blood drives, four UNICEF drives, and three drives for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

On this occasion, Robert Dager also has been named the Chatsworth Citizen of the Year.

Both of them received the certificates of merit from Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Councilman Mitch Englander, Supervisor Michael Antonovich, and Congressman Brad Sherman at a ceremony held in Los Angeles on May 17.
