Ly speaking-singing art of the Co Tu

VOV.VN - “Speak ly-sing ly” is an improvised folk art which has been handed down orally by generations of the Co Tu ethnic group.

To preserve and promote this art form, many districts in Quang Nam province have established classes and clubs and have introduced “speak ly-sing ly” to their schools.

The "speak ly- sing ly" Club of Cong To Ron hamlet in Nam Giang district attracts many young people. Once a month, it invites experienced village artisans to teach young people. Club member Ria Thi Dua said she can now perform at festivals.

"I attended training classes on ly singing. I’m very happy and will never forget the songs of the Co Tu people," Dua said.

The Club was established because lý singing and other forms of Co Tu culture were being forgotten and at risk of disappearing entirely. Nam Giang district encouraged village elders, prestigious persons, and skilled artisans to teach the younger generation.

Artisan Bling Hanh shared, "We must make every effort to inspire young people to learn and improve their ly singing skills so they can promote the genre and our group’s cultural identity."

Several schools in Nam Giang district have included ly singing in their extracurricular activities, so students will learn its origins and values and acquire a love for their culture.

Quang Nam province is implementing a project to preserve and promote the traditional culture of ethnic minorities in association with tourism development. Each village has established a group to popularize ly speaking and singing.

Nguyen Thanh Hong, Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, said, "We support the preservation and promotion of the cultural values of ethnic minorities, focusing on reviving traditional festivals and getting village elders to teach their traditions to young people. We have piloted models that combine cultural preservation and tourism development."

The Co Tu often speak and sing ly to welcome guests and show their hospitality. The recognition of ly singing as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage has helped the Co Tu people in Quang Nam province to promote it.
