Officials at Yemeni Vice President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi's office said on December 6 that an interim reconciliation government would be formed within 24 hours.

"The new cabinet will be declared on December 7 " two officials at Hadi's office said.

The cabinet with equal participation of the opposition and ruling party will be led by Prime Minister Mohamed Basindwa, an opposition leader who was nominated to head the new government in line with a Gulf-brokered deal signed by outgoing President Ali Abdullah Saleh in late last month.

Yemen has been gripped by political crisis since late January when protests demanding an end to Saleh's 33-year rule erupted.

The opposition coalition and the ruling party agreed on November 23 on the GCC deal designed to end the 11-month-long turmoil. According to the power-transfer deal, early presidential elections were set for February 21, 2012, and Saleh will retain a title of honorary president for 90 days before resignation and enjoy immunity from prosecution.
