Thirty years have past but the event of April 30, 1975 remains as a significant landmark in world history of national liberation in the 20^th century.

The world admired Vietnam for its August 1945 Revolution and 1954 Dien Bien Phu victory which smashed the colonialist shackles and its war of resistance against the US imperialists, which culminated in the great victory of Spring 1975.

With the passage of time, the invaluable historic lesson imbued with the indomitable spirit of April 30, 1975 still carries its weight.

Our people always wish for peace, national independence and freedom. However, in its long history, the Vietnamese nation has been assigned to cope with different imperialists in different times. The uneven development of human society has created big, small, powerful and weak countries. When powerful nations wanted to use violence to oppress and force smaller countries to knuckle under, imperialism appeared.  At first, new imperial nations proved to be very powerful and able to topple and mount punitive expeditions against smaller countries across the globe. In the end, they were doomed to humiliating failure. When our people were forced to fight foreign invaders, they grouped together to form a solid unity bloc, ready to overcome every difficulty and challenge, even to sacrifice their lives for protection of every inch of national territory.

In retrospect, we now understand more about the indomitable strength of national unity coupled with the wisdom of our entire people and army under the clear-sighted leadership of the Party.

Bearing in our mind the spirit of moving mountains we are sure to overcome all major difficulties and challenges to keep pace with the trend of our time.

The significance of the April 30, 1975 victory is a great source of encouragement for us today and in the future. It provides fresh impetus for us to steadily advance to socialism and successfully realise the goal of a powerful nation living in an equal, democratic and civilized society.
