Singaporean PM to make one-week visit to the US

Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will make an official visit to the US from July 31 to August 5, reported the Prime Minister’s Office.

The visit, which marks the first official one to the US by a Singaporean Prime Minister since 1985, coincides with the 50th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties.

PM Lee will be welcomed by and have a meeting with US President Barack Obama.

He is scheduled to hold meetings with Vice President Joseph Biden, Secretary of State John Kerry and Secretary of Defence Ashton Carter.

The Singaporean leader will speak at a reception to be jointly hosted by the US Chamber of Commerce and the US-ASEAN Business Council, lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, and meet with Singaporeans at a National Day reception at the Singapore Embassy in Washington DC.

The US is currently Singapore’s biggest foreign investor, while Singapore is the US’s largest trade partner in Southeast Asia.
