PCA’s July 12 ruling continues to get support

The ruling of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague, the Netherlands, on the Philippines’s lawsuit against China’s claims in the East Sea is a proper judgment and in conformity with the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, stated former Indian Vice Admiral Shekhar Sinha.

Sinha, who is also an expert on international issues, held that the tribunal’s July 12 ruling even exceeded the expectation as it rejected China’s groundless claim of “historic rights” over waters within the so-called “nine-dash line.”

He expressed his hope that all relevant parties will observe the ruling, and not hinder the freedom of navigation in and overflight well as oil and gas exploration and trade activities in the East Sea.

He suggested that ASEAN should hold a meeting to ask China to join dialogue, thus reaching a common approach.

Meanwhile, a number of political parties, civil organisations and the community in Mexico have voiced their support to the court’s ruling, considering it a right decision that brings about justice to countries in their struggle for their legitimate sovereignty.

On July 22, Alberto Anaya Guierrez, President of the Labour Party (PT), affirmed the PCA’s ruling is completely right.

Meanwhile, Felix Castellanos, President of the Mexican Institute for Friendship and Cooperation with Vietnam, said that Mexico has kept a watch to the PCA’s judgment and found that this is a fair, accurate and positive ruling.

He asked all parties, especially China to respect the ruling.
